RECENT WORKS
These are seven works that demonstrate my ability in documentary filmmaking with a focus in storytelling, interviewing, research, and in the capacity of spontaneous outdoor and high-risk environments. These works span three categories: Branded Documentary and Advertising, Nature Documentary, and Behind the Scenes Documentary.
BRANDED ADVERTISING AND DOCUMENTARY
“BEYOND THE BASICS” WITH GRETA FOEHR (2024)
Description: Greta is back with another round of classes—are you ready to watch your technique skyrocket?! Beyond the Basics: Bouldering is made of 5 targeted technique workshops designed for V2-5 climbers, and cover Footwork & Overhang Climbing, Lockoffs & Static Movement, Dynos & Dynamic Movement, Heel & Toe Hooks, and Slopers & Technical Movement.
My role: I conducted a 30 minute interview via a set of prepared questions that I asked Greta Foehr. The questions were provided a few days in advance, as well as a storyboard so that she could prepare responses with eloquence and brevity, and climbing sequences that highlighted the material of her class. Though the interview footage was not included in the final video, the intention was to use the dialogue as a natural and candid voice over to provide context to the footage.
CRANKIN’ 2023 Recap (2023)
Description: With our CRANKIN’ Bouldering Competition 2023 behind us, here’s a recap video of how it all turned out! The climbing community showed up to test their mettle, fall down, get back up, send it, win big, and, above all, have a good time.
My Role: I had the aim of capturing the community, culture, and competitiveness of the annual bouldering competition, called Crankin’, by the client, Rocknasium. I worked with a two camera set up to ensure the efficient capture of diverse and quality footage. With my knowledge of the space, as well as timing of the schedule, I was able to provide enough coverage over the span of 12 hours to tell a story of camaraderie, failure, and success. Lastly, I conducted an impromptu interview that served as a voice over, which made room for sharing a brief history of the 30-year-old event through Imani’s personal perspective. I was able to recount its history by searching through various archives, and interviewing various long-time members.
NATURE DOCUMENTARY
CA RICE COMMISSION & NATURE CONSERVANCY: RICE AND SANDHILL CRANE (2024)
Description: Already listed as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act, Julia Barfield with The Nature Conservancy says the Greater Sandhill Crane has also recently seen a sharp decline in numbers. Learn more about how these creatures of habit rely on rice fields as an essential part of their existence.
My Role: I was originally consulting an independent production company on the best practices and techniques of filming sandhill crane. I was eventually hired by them as a long lens camera operator for a joint project between The Nature Conservancy and the California Rice Commission. My aim was to capture certain behavior of the sandhill crane (i.e social display, feeding, and flight), as well as their physical characteristics (i.e wingspan, plumage, and profile features), all within the environment of rice fields. I worked within the boundaries of the local land restrictions, and was supervised under the guidance of a Nature Conservancy employee. Having 4 hours to document the experience starting from early sunrise, to the ending of their morning meal, I created a video guideline and shot-list to keep me visually and technically prepared. Once production was complete, I off-loaded media to the team that hired me, and provided production notes (i.e shot preferences, timestamps, edit suggestions) to help with the post-prodution process.
WOODLAND REGIONAL PARK PRESERVE (2023)
Description: The Woodland Regional Park Preserve is located east of Road 102, and south of Road 25. It was once a landfill, and is now turned into a sanctuary that serves as a haven for nature. The park is 160 acres, with a vision that includes enhancing the wetland, plant, and wildlife resources, along with improving access for public visitation, and being a place where educational programs can be offered.
My Role: This film was created to be used as grant proposal material for funding a environmental non-profit preservation project. I corresponded with the client over a couple of weeks, and gained access to a local location that is not accessible by the public. In a span of a 3 hour shoot, I captured enough footage that allowed me to tell a story in post production via voice over, and narration written from research I conducted utilizing public information regarding the park and its ongoing project status.
YOLO BYPASS WILDLIFE AREA (2022)
Description: Flooding season marks a special period of time in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. Discover a slice of its natural history and wildlife by taking a ride on the 6 mile auto-loop tour where birds of all kind can be found, from Great Egrets hunting, to hundreds of migrating waterfowl flying in flocks along the Pacific Flyway.
My Role: I created this film as part of a capstone project for a California Naturalist Certification Program created by the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resource. The goal was to create a deliverable that would benefit the conservation work of a local non-profit, and the environments they are stewards of. Utilizing the education I gained from the course, I wrote a script, and narrated my findings by making objective observations paired with inferences made by research. Filmed on two separate days, with a whole month in between during the Winter season.

BEHIND THE SCENES DOCUMENTARY
DOCUMENTING A 100 MILE ULTRAMARATHON | Behind the Scenes of the 2023 Western States Endurance Race (2023)
Description: Like Hellah Sidibe, our creative production crew was determined to document the entire 100 mile ultramarathon experience at the 2023 Western States Endurance Race--NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. It was a 4 day effort that involved preparation, summiting a mountain, going the distance, battling energy levels, cameras raised up at all times, and making sure we all cross our finish lines.
My Role: Our jobs as creatives are indeed inherently fun; however, to be able to manifest our visions is an immeasurable process that is shadowed by the moment we share the final product. We all often share what it's like to do what we do, and hopefully this work provides further exposure to the nuances that are involved.
I aimed to document our production experience by capturing the height of our enduring physical performance, the communication involved in navigating various business related relationships, and the creative thought process of telling the story of an endurance athlete tackling the challenge of a world renowned ultramarathon.
BEHIND THE SCENES OF A PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR PHOTOSHOOT | Running & Climbing (2023)
Description: I recently had the pleasure of going out on an outdoor adventure via a creative project for a brand. I was hired as a production assistant, and technical support. In this video, I share my experiences in these roles, as well as provide general commentary about what goes on during a production.
My Role: I was hired onto this production as a production assistant, as well as technical support. Apart from assisting with general production needs, such as gear check for both camera and climbing equipment, technical support was a role that required me to assess risk management and on-set wellness. I lead a group stretch to encourage an active warm up for a full day of rock climbing, and monitored activity in the environment to ensure proper safety techniques were in practice, as well as checking in with talent so as to avoid strenuous risk.
In between moments of action, I managed to capture the story of the behind the scenes, and share my working experience in this short documentary.
